Ready to Start!
Welcome to ELD. I am looking forward to a great year. We will focus on the Common Core Standards for English Language Development as well as English Language Arts. ELD integrates reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to help students attain proficiency in English.
ABI
If you have not set up an ABI account yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. This is the most efficient way for you and your child to keep up with your child's academic progress in middle school. I have talked with the students about the importance of keeping up with their own academic progress. I want them to be aware of their responsibilities when it come to their grades. They are responsible for writing assignments and due dates in their agendas, turning work in on time, and preparing for future tests and quizzes. If a student fails a quiz/test, they can speak with me on their own time (nutrition break, lunch, or after school) about scheduling an appt. to retake a test. Remember, middle school is a stepping stone toward high school. The goal is to transition the students into independent learners and you can support them by encouraging them to communicate with their teachers about their academic progress.
Supplies Needed for Class
Students will be required to have the following supplies in class each day.

* sharpened pencils
* red ballpoint pen
* lined paper
* 8.5" by 11" spiral bound notebook
* highlighter
* reading book
* student agenda

Students need to bring the spiral bound notebook and student agenda to class each day. The notebook is used for notes, vocabulary, grammar exercises, and writing practice. The student agenda will be used for writing down daily objectives and assignments.
